Syed holds a master’s degree in International Marketing from Aalborg University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a bachelor’s degree from Jagannath University, Bangladesh.
He has four years of working experience as a senior lecturer of marketing at World University of Bangladesh. He was also associated with a world bank funded research project on quality assurance in higher education in his previous workplace.
Global value chains
The research area global value chains is one of Syed’s favorites within the field of international business. In particular, he is interested in the recent sustainability phenomenon of global garment value chains. His current research interests are governance, strategic adaptation, addressing sustainability and climate change agenda, and the role of institutions and business systems in global value chains.
In his master’s thesis, Syed worked on developing circular economy typologies of garment manufacturers. Later, he worked on a book chapter titled “Circular economy and sustainability capability: the case of H&M”.
The overall goal of Syed’s research is to make social impact in terms of achieving sustainable goals and mitigating the climate change challenges.
Contribution to the garment industry
Syed’s PhD topic is related to sustainability-driven business modelling strategies in global value chains. He is studying Bangladeshi apparel business systems in his PhD and aims to contribute to the firms in the global garment industries, especially the suppliers in adopting sustainability-driven business modelling strategies in their national business systems.
In addition, Syed also endeavors to contribute to the current knowledge on sustainability-driven business modelling and business systems literature.
Private life
Syed is 34 years old and comes from Bangladesh. He lives in Aalborg, Denmark. He has a lovely family consisting of his wife Afrin and their 4-year-old daughter Aairah.
Syed loves to play cricket in his leisure time.
